All Handplanes Now Available in Paulownia Wood.
All PCH handplanes are now available in paulownia wood. The original balsa construction will be slowly phased out and replaced by paulownia. We searched far and wide to avoid having to import this wood and were able to obtain this lumber from a source in the USA on the East Coast that both grows and mills it. It weighs in slightly heavier than balsa, but is a much more durable and resistant lumber. Here are a few new pics of the first line of paulownia handplanes.

Hydrofoil Handplane
Testing out a few new ideas. We created the first handplane with a hydrofoil (or at least the first that I have ever heard of or seen.) The hydrofoil gives a ton of immediate lift and eliminates the entire drag of the handplane at higher speeds. Being on such a small scale makes control somewhat difficult though.

New Model : El Pequeño
Dimensions: 9.5" x 7 3/4" x 3/4" with swallow tailThis is the go-to handplane for when it's going off. Meant for very hollow or dumping surf, El Pequeño is meant to keep you in the wave while still giving you some control. It is designed to give some control in the wave, but to still have enough planing area to help you get in early. The extra small size helps make diving under waves easier and helps you pull out of waves more easily in case things aren't going well.

About Pacific Coast Handplanes
Based out of Orange County in Southern California, Pacific Coast Handplanes (PCH) is the manufacturer of a variety of handplanes (or handboards) for bodysurfing. We strive to create boards that will give the user the best ride and performance possible. All handplanes are 100% made from start to finish in the USA.

What are Handplanes?
Handplanes are magical tools used for bodysurfing. They are miniature boards you put on your hand that enhance bodysurfing by giving you a ton of lift, more trim, more speed and just overall more control on a wave. We use balsa here at PCH because the lighter and more bouyant the handplane is, the more lift you can get on a wave. The greatest advantage of handplanes is that they are fun in virtually any conditions and especially good for getting your stoke on when surfing isn't quite doing it for you.
